Toshiba Introduces Dual-Format DVD Recordable Drives

Toshiba New Slim And Desktop Drives Support DVD-R/RW And DVD+R/RW Formats

IRVINE, Calif., March 22, 2004 – Toshiba Storage Device Division (SDD), the industry pioneer in optical storage, today announced two new dual format DVD recordable drives. Available in a slim drive for notebook computers and a half-height model for desktop systems, Toshiba’s drives enable users to read, record and re-write content to DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW and CDs.

“Consumers are accessing and creating more data, video and music files than ever before, and expect their systems to support all formats available today,” said Maciek Brzeski, vice president of marketing at Toshiba SDD. “Toshiba’s new recordable drives enable desktop and mobile PC users to create DVDs and CDs without concern over media types, by providing support for both DVD technology formats in a single drive.”

Weighing only 0.2 kg, Toshiba’s slim DVD recordable drive supports 4x DVD burning speeds for both recording formats. Designed to help OEMs build lighter and more functional notebook computers, the SD-R6372 delivers increased performance in a mobile package – allowing users to watch DVD movies, listen to or access CD content, and burn music/video/data to a disc while on the go.

Offering outstanding performance in a desktop drive, Toshiba’s SD-R5272 supports 8x DVD recording and 4x re-write speeds for both formats, in addition to 32x CD recording. Available as an upgrade kit, Toshiba’s SD-R5272 offers a convenient and affordable way to enhance current desktop systems with DVD/CD recording and playback functionality. The kit includes the award-winning Nero DVD/CD burning software suite and all of the tools needed for easy and quick installation

Toshiba’s SD-R5272 desktop drive is available now on shoptoshiba.com for $149. The SD-R6372 slim-line drives are currently shipping to OEM customers. For more information, visit www.dvd.toshiba.com.
